Only Known Billy Sullivan Single Signed ONL (Giles) Baseball. Billy Sullivan was a key member of the Chicago White Sox famed American League Champion "Hitless Wonders" of 1906. Described by Ty Cobb as the best catcher "ever to wear shoe leather," Sullivan was "the best man throwing to bases in the American League," and "no man in the business knew more about getting the best work from a pitcher and holding an infield together." Sullivan also revolutionized the way his position was played, he is credited as the first catcher to position himself directly behind the batter and as the inventor of an inflatable chest protector. Sullivan passed away in 1965 and his signature is incredibly scarce in any variation. This is the only known single signed baseball that is known to exist! The blue ballpoint signature rates approximately 8/10 in strength and is dated “Aug 3 – 1957” in Sullivan’s hand. The ball is in near mint condition with an even tone throughout. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a single signed baseball from one of baseball’s most important pioneers! Includes a Full LOA from JSA (#BB38605).
